Pollard Memorial Library to present
Human Expression: Portraits in Jazz
LOWELL, Mass. — Human Expression: Portraits in Jazz will be on display from August 3 through August 31, 2026, at the Pollard Memorial Library, 401 Merrimack Street. Admission is free and open to the public during regular library hours.
This fine art photography presentation by Lowell native George L. DeLuca will be installed just inside the Colburn Street entrance.
Featured are 12 internationally recognized jazz musicians performing on-stage between 1999 and 2001. The series documents a period of resurgence in the world of American roots music. Each framed image is a scaled-down version of a larger work intended for gallery exhibition.
The exhibit pays tribute to the Wayne Shorter Quartet, Diana Krall, Roy Hargrove, Natalie Cole, Kurt Elling, Chuck Mangione, and Boney James — all photographed during performance at the Newport Jazz Festival at the turn of the millennium.
DeLuca, a University of Massachusetts Lowell graduate, author, and visual artist, describes the project as an effort to honor musicians whose dedication to their art has inspired generations of listeners and fellow artists.
